QUIZ | Are You a Sloth Expert? Two-Fingered Edition
Although often referred to as two-toed sloths, this description can be a bit misleading since all sloths have three toes on their hind limbs. The real difference lies in their forelimbs, where sloths in the Choloepus genus have two fingers.
These sloths are unique in that they are the only ones having sweat glands— at the tips of their noses! They also have a unique feature compared to their three-fingered counterparts: fleshy, soft pads on their hands and feet. There are two species of Choloepus:
- Hoffmann’s Sloth (Choloepus hoffmanni)
These sloths are typically light-brown in color and inhabit two distinct regions divided by the Andes mountains. - Linnaeus Sloth (Choloepus didactylus)
Dark chocolate in color, this is the species of sloth you’re most likely to see in zoos across North America or Europe.
Now it’s time to test your sloth knowledge! Take the Quiz below!
