QUIZ | Are You a Sloth Expert?

The definitive quiz and trivia for sloth experts! This time, we have the three-fingered sloth edition to celebrate the Bradypus genus. Don’t be fooled by the first question—it’s just an easy one to get you warmed up!  But first, a quick recap about three-fingered sloths!

Brown-throated Three-Fingered Sloth (Bradypus variegatus)
The most famous of all sloths, the Brown-Throated Sloth has the widest distribution, found in most countries of South and Central America. You’ll recognize them by their white faces and masked eyes!

Pygmy Sloth (Bradypus pygmaeus)
The smallest of all sloth species, and also the most endangered, this sloth is found only on a tiny island in Panama. You might have seen photos or videos of these sloths swimming in crystal-clear waters among mangroves!

Pale-throated sloth (Bradypus tridactylus)
Similar to the Brown-Throated Sloth, but with a bright yellow face and mottled fur, Pale-Throated Sloths inhabit the rainforests of northern South America, from French Guiana to Suriname and Colombia. Research on this species is limited.

Northern Maned Sloth (Bradypus torquatus)
The "coconut sloths" resemble a mix of three-fingered and two-fingered sloths!  They have brown fur, no eye patches, and a distinctive black mane. For many years, it was believed there were two populations of this species.

Southern Maned Sloth (Bradypus crinitus)
The latest addition to our list! It’s nearly impossible to distinguish the Northern from the Southern Maned Sloth by appearance alone. However, thanks to the recent research we mentioned above, we know they are indeed separate species. A British naturalist pointed this out back in the 19th century, but his observations were dismissed at the time.
