October 2023 | Tales From the Jungle
Firstly, a heartfelt thank you for joining us in celebrating Slothtober! International Sloth Day was an overwhelming success with the outpouring of loving messages, photos, art, and fundraisers from around the globe! We also want to congratulate the winners of our Sloth Art Contest and a big thank you to everybody who sent their entries!
Just in!
Just in! Fresh images from our partners at Cariblue Resort showcasing a two-fingered sloth using one of our installed bridges! Cariblue is a proud member of our Sloth Friendly Network, a certification program that recognizes businesses that support and contribute to sloth conservation and sustainable practices.
Photography and Conservation
Have you ever pondered over the significance of art and photography in conservation? Our esteemed trustee, the award-winning wildlife photographer Suzi Eszterhas, has repeatedly shown us the power of a well-captured image.
Her photo, titled “Sloth Dilemma,” was a finalist in the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPY) award. The WPY award ceremony for 2023 took place earlier this month, and the following video, highlighting the significance of Suzi’s photography in sloth conservation, was prominently showcased during the event. Out of nearly 50,000 entries from 95 countries, “Sloth Dilemma” stood out as a testament to the power of impactful wildlife photography.
Spooky Sloth Stories
As we bask in the spooky spirit of Slothtober, we bring to your attention a chilling menace that poses a significant threat to the sloths and ecosystems of Costa Rica: the invasive Crazy Ants species.
With the end of the year approaching, we have some exciting news in the pipeline, so do keep an eye out! Thank you once again for your unwavering support throughout Sloth Month. Every achievement, every research, and every conservation project has been made possible because of you!
