Eight species of wildlife caught on camera trap using a Sloth Crossing!

Eight species of wildlife caught on camera trap using a Sloth Crossing!

In our last update, we shared with you the amazing milestone of our bridge n°300. In case you missed it, you can read all the details in this blog!

We’ve started studying the usage of the Sloth Crossings, so that other colleagues and organizations can see the effectiveness of these types of bridges and replicate this project in other parts of the world.

So what’s the impact of the project? Let us show you what’s been going on at bridge SC-008, in the Tasty Dayz Hotel parking lot, installed in November 2019.

You can navigate the Sloth Crossings’ map here.

The most active Sloth Crossing

We recently installed a camera trap that recorded 379 photos during February, March, April, and May. This means the camera triggered 379 times, so it’s quite an active bridge! Here’s a small selection for you to see the different species of wildlife using the bridge. In order of number of appearances, here are the eight species:

Tamandua Anteater (Tamandua mexicana) . Three photos.
Red Tail Squirrel (Sciurus granatensis) . 11 photos.
Common Opposum (Didelphis marsupialis) . 14 photos.
Hairy Porcupine (Coendou mexicanus). 25 photos.
Wooly Oppossum (Caluromys derbianus). 42 photos.
Mantled Howler Monkey (Alouatta palliata). 53 photos.
Kinkajou (Potos flavus). 109 photos.
Two-fingered sloths (Choloepus hoffmanni), including adults, juveniles, and this mom-and-baby duo. 122 photos.

Help sloths, help the wildlife

Footage like this once again proves that helping and protecting sloths, an umbrella species, benefits other wildlife!

We hope you enjoyed these photos of the various animals using one of the Sloth Crossings. Remember, this project is possible thanks to people like you who donate, sponsor, or simply spread the word on social media. You can continue to support us by making a donation or sponsoring your own Sloth Crossing. Monthly donations also help us organize our budget for this and the rest of our projects!
